Definition:

A doctoral dissertation (PhD thesis) is typically required in order to achieve the PhD title. Institutions typically have guidelines for formatting theses. This section provides links to information about the dissertation writing process. Early career researchers should be aware that, should they plan to pursue academic careers, the doctoral dissertation is a work which will be reviewed in the future by hiring committees and others.
