Course evaluations

Definition:

Course evaluations are often required by institutions. If your institution does not have institutional course evaluation forms, the following resources can guide you to why evaluating your courses is valuable for both you as an instructor and for your students.

Useful resources on Course evaluations:

Berkeley Graduate Division Graduate Student Instructor Teaching & Resource Center. (2020). Evaluating and improving your teaching.

Created especially for GAs/GTAs/GRAs: five ways to improve your teaching and conducting a mid-term evaluation (numeric, paragraph, and short answer survey models). Includes summary PDF.

University of South Florida Academy for Teaching and Learning Excellence. (2020). Teaching evaluation. https://www.usf.edu/atle/teaching/teaching-evaluation.aspx

Descriptions of the evaluation process, including tenure guidelines, contextualized student evaluations, teaching portfolios, chair visitation and evaluation forms, midterm evaluations, self-administered end of term evaluations, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and additional resources related to the characteristics of strong teaching, faculty evaluation systems, and faculty evaluation rubrics. Helpful for early career researchers interested in preparing for full-time academic careers.
